A Proven Process
Smith Powder Coating recognizes the importance of the three step process. These crucial steps reduces the risk of scratches, chipping, and corrosion. Scroll down to learn more about our proven process.
Smith Powder Coating Process
Each crucial step is what makes our Powder Coating last for years to come.
Step 1: Sandblast
First, we sandblast the metal. This cleans the surface by shooting a strong jet of air and sand across the entire surface. This process not only purifies the metal, but also creates a rough surface for the primer to bond with the metal.
Step 2: Primer
Next, we coat a thin epoxy primer to the clean metal. After, we place the product in an oven at 400 degrees. As the primer melts, it bonds to the metal. This step is often skipped by cheaper powder coaters and within a few months, their powder coat chips away.
Step 3: Powder Coat
Finally, we apply the powder coat with an electrostatic spray gun. This can be done in any color or shade you desire. Next, we again place the product in a 400 degree oven where the hard, secure shell sets in.
