Three Step Powder Coating Process

At Smith Powder Coating it is our mission to create products that will last. To do this, we take great care in our three step process to ensure each piece properly follows our tested method!

Before a metal pool gate is sandblasted and ready to be powder coated

Step 1:

We first sandblast the surface to create a white metal finish. This method removes all impurities from the surface like grease, oil, and rust. Sandblasting also creates a rough finish (like sanding) so the primer can more securely bond to the metal.

Step 2:

We then coat the surface in a thin epoxy primer. It cures in a 400 degree oven. Primer particles are about 1/10th the size of powder coat particles. This helps the primer bond deep into the metal surface which is necessary for out door products.

Step 3:

We finally are able to powder coat the metal surface with an electrostatic gun. It again cures in a 400 degree oven. After your metal pool gates cool, they are now ready for use! Powder coat’s design is made to last against harsh conditions of chemicals, uv rays, and corrosion.

Benefits of Powder Coated Pool Gates

Color Options: At Smith Powder Coating we offer a wide variety of colors, textures, and shades. We can help find the perfect color to match your needs.

Greener: Unlike liquid paint, powder coating doesn’t use any harmful chemicals that are destructive to our environment. It also has a smaller carbon footprint, because we are able to reuse the remaining powder for other projects.

Stronger: Powder Coating creates a finish that seals against moisture, chemicals, and heat, making it more resistant to scratching, chipping, and peeling.
