Utah County Powder Coating Expectations
What to expect when you drop your powder coating off at Smith Powder Coating? Bring your items to our Utah County facility. You will be given a quote and estimated completion time. Our team is friendly, hardworking, and are excited to work with you! Read below to learn more about our three-step powder coating process. Together, this process protects the metal from rust, corrosion, chips, scratches, and weathering.
Step 1: Sandblast
The metal is sandblasted to a “white finish.” This process removes all impurities and creates a profile along the metal surface. Similar to sandpaper on wood!
Prime
Epoxy primer is next applied to the metal. The primer molecule is 1/10th the size of powder coat; allowing the primer to seep deep into the metal surface.
Powder Coat
Lastly, polyester powder coat is administered to the metal through an electrostatic spray gun. It is then baked at 400 degrees to melt into a hard shell around the product.
